Nohlab’s spatial experience, Van Gogh: An Immersive Journey, at Istanbul’s Digital Experience Center features its final AI-driven chapter in the 360° LED Room. More than 300,000 visitors have experienced the piece.
In the final chapter of Nohlab’s Van Gogh: An Immersive Journey, custom software categorizes and analyzes over 2,000 of Van Gogh’s works. Using high-dimensional algorithms and neural networks, AI generates original creations in the artist’s style. The experience concludes as we emerge from Van Gogh’s subconscious.
The final part is conceived as an homage to a futuristic interpretation of Van Gogh’s paintings. Beyond analysis, the AI system generates unique new paintings in his style. The works are examined and divided into subcategories—drawings, landscapes, portraits—which are then used to form 2D and 3D data environments. Each artwork’s colors are mapped into these environments, allowing the resulting palettes to be experienced spatially. His life, his artworks, and his style are blended with new technology—unlocking new possibilities for where his work could go as the experience brings us out of his subconscious, and into the future.
